Applications that do not meet the requirements, but people still decide to do it — maybe they’ll get lucky. They will write in them that they have no experience, that they have no portfolio, that they have an excellent vocabulary and they will definitely cope. They will never cope. Skip them and don’t waste your time. Most often, such candidates will not even have examples of their work. They will not even show a post on a personal social network.
10% — applications from literature lovers.
From those who write poetry, prose, publish whatsapp data books, compose fantasy. A dangerous category for an unprepared HR specialist or entrepreneur. Such people usually have a good coherent text about themselves, and have examples of their work. They send a couple of posts on social networks where they wrote storytelling for themselves or some brand.
We ignore such responses. Such people retrain especially slowly and with difficulty. They are sure that they write well, do not take criticism well, tend to miss deadlines and disappear from the radar. But they will say the opposite. The risk is especially high with young writers under 20.
10% — requests from journalists.
Most often, they write to regional publishing houses. In the examples of work, such authors usually have one publication, and links to the best texts begin with the same address site/news/… and then the news title. We skip such responses. We have already checked several hundred and they all have the same problem — officialese, complex sentences, reverse word order, complete lack of understanding of the need for benefit for the reader.
Experience working in federal-level publishing houses, by the way, is also not considered an advantage, although the language skills are better there.
This does not mean that all journalists write badly. We cooperate with those who write very well, but our guys have commercial texts, interesting articles and texts for websites under their belt.
5% — star reviews.
These are authors who write expensively. But mass mailings – how to do them correctly not always well. The most difficult category to quickly filter out. On the one hand, their price tag is higher. On the other, they may turn out to be those very autonomous performers who are worth their weight in gold.
Our observations:
- If you indicated the price for the work in the vacancy, and in the response you see an amount twice as large, then most likely the author can be persuaded to accept the budget that you stated in the ad.
- If a star author’s examples are only interviews with entrepreneurs, and you need someone who writes articles and landing pages, then this is not your candidate. You will have to check him longer and the result, most likely, will not satisfy you.
- If the author asks for more than 10 thousand for the text, it is most likely better to contact an agency for complex work on the text. We will touch on this in more detail later, when we talk about the prices of authors.
How to choose a performer
You have eliminated half of them at the aleart news previous stage. Further elimination depends on the goals and requirements. Usually, it is best to go from the general to the specific.
Text about yourself. If there are any triggers that are taboo for you, highlight them and hide lines with such responses. For example, you are looking for a person who must be in touch all the time. And the candidate writes that right now he works as a journalist, chief accountant or someone else. Rest assured, he will ignore you and disappear from contact.
