Some things to keep in mind when setting up an online store
Payment systems
WooCommerce comes with the option to pay with PayPal as standard. I am a big fan of PayPal myself: no hassle with card readers and verification code; only your username and password are sufficient. Dangerous for my personal budget, but super handy for webshops.

But your target audience is the benchmark and probably not everyone has a PayPal account. Look at which payment methods are established with them, which they prefer. You have to offer those. A frequently used payment system with us is Ogone, but there are many  others . We have compared the most  common online payment systems.

Tip: also check how you can measure conversions with these systems. Handy to follow up your (re-)marketing campaigns.

Conversion optimization

Ordering and paying should be made as easy as possible. For example, consider whether it is really necessary for someone to create an account:

Advantage: you collect more data that you can later use for mailings and offers;
Disadvantage: the customer may drop out for this (one-time) purchase.
Security and performance
Don’t miss out on potential purchases due to technical issues. You don’t want there to be any hiccups when someone is in a purchasing process or has to wait a long time for the next page to load. That will cause them to drop out. But security is also crucial; users fill in their payment details and must therefore be able to trust you.

Your webshop generates income, so you better make sure it is always up-to-date and closely monitored in terms of security. Choosing managed hosting,  for example, is not an unnecessary luxury.

Customer service

Big online stores like Zalando, Coolblue and Bol set the bar and expectations high. Next day delivery, a good return policy… You have to measure yourself against that or offer another valuable service instead.
